E-mail Domain "poers.edu.pl" Is a Indicator for Papermill Articles

A comment at ForBetterSciene [1] raises concerns about an e-mail domain "poers.edu.pl", alleging that this domain was registered solely to provide papermill authors with academic-seeming email accounts.

Following this lead, we have identified 46 articles, whose corresponding authors listed email addresses under this domain. 45 of them were coauthored by Chinese individuals in and outside China. The corresponding authors for these articles were affiliated to different institutions in Chinayet shared the "poers.edu.pl" email domain, which corroborates the concerns raised in the ForBetterScience comment.

Notably, authors from these papermill-associated articles not only came from universities, but also from high schools in China, although we have no idea whether the high school-affiliated authors were the employees or students. The involvement of high school personnel in such papermill articles points to highly concerning academic integrity issues within China's academic landscape.

Most of these 45 articles were conference articles, and 25 of them were published on Atlantis Press (part of Springer Nature) titles.

These articles were identified through a Google Scholar search using the keyword "poers.edu.pl", a searching strategy can not guarantee the identification of all publications linked to this email domain, as publishers’ official websites do not offer a function to search for articles by email domain. We therefore call on relevant publishers to step in and launch further formal investigations into this issue.
