Some journals' output in Q1 2026 exceeded that of full-year 2025

We found that some journals have published more articles in the first quarter in 2026 than in the full year of 2025.

Take Fuel, an Elsevier title, for example, it has issued 2,996 articles during the first three months in 2026; on contract, it issued 2,841 articles in 2025.

Similar trends were observed on the journal "Biomaterials" (654 artiles in 2026 Q1 v.s. 636 in the full year of 2025), "Dyes and Pigments" (590 artiles in 2026 Q1 v.s. 573 in the full year of 2025), and "Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids" (647 artiles in 2026 Q1 v.s. 609 in the full year of 2025).

Besides, "Journal of Materials Science & Technoloty" has issued 913 articles in 2026 Q1, slightly smaller than the 945 articles in the full year of 2025.

Note that these trends do not necessarily indicate any irregularities by the journals or the publisher. In some cases, it is normal practices that journals received a lot articles in 2025, and they began assigning the 2026 articles before the year started. Therefore, the total publications for 2026 may not reach four times the current figure, once the journals complete their 2026 schedule, they may assign the remaining articles to 2027.
