300 USD to Buy a Peer-Review Experience
Recently, the 5GH Team noticed an advertisement on RedNote (a.k.a. Xiaohongshu, a Chinese social media) that an immigration services company claimed it could secure peer-review experience for clients. During the conversation, the company's representative said it could help clients take part in a journal's actual peer-review process and assist them in writing peer-review reports. It also claimed that after the review was completed, clients could obtain proof of peer review to use as materials for immigration applications. To that end, the company representative asked the Team to pay a service fee of CNY 2,000 per manuscript, equivalent to USD 300.
