Recent investigation suggests that an article [1] has high proportion (about 13%) references to its handling editor Rima Chatterjee, raising concerns that Chatterjee took advantages of her editorial role to promote her citations.
The article has 38 references, 5 (13%) of which were co-authored by Rima Chatterjee, who was also the editor of the article. The 5GH team has no details if these citations were request by Chatterjee during the editorial and review process for the publication, and is communicating with the publisher PLoS about this matter.
Previous investigation [2] also indicates some editors may take advantage of their role as guest editors on special issues to promote their citations. This is considered as a kind of academic misconducts.
The article [1] also has high proportion (about 13%) references to another author LI Sitian (Li S. T.).
