Over Citations to ZHOU Hao's Publications
An investigation by the 5GH Team reveals 36 articles over citing ZHOU Hao's publications. Over 30% of each article’s references were co-authored by ZHOU Hao, with the China PLA General Hospital (a.k.a. the 301 Hospital).
Early in November, the 5GH Team noted a message on a slack channel that an article over cites ZHOU's publications. After that, the team extracted all DOIs of ZHOU's publications as listed on his ResearchGate page. With the help of the OpenAlex database, the team then found articles citing these publications. The OpenAlex records the detailed information of the articles citing every specific publication. Using those records on ZHOU's publications, the team identified which articles have large number of references coauthored by ZHOU, and calculated the proportions of references citing ZHOU's publications. The total number of each article's references was obtained from the article's reference list (when references were presented with sequential numbering) or from the article's OpenAlex record (in cases where sequential numbering was unavailable).
